Student Grant Round Four Winner

Ms. Kumiko Aoki, a fourth year student at Nihon University, Japan, is the winner of the fourth round of the Avid® Asia-Pacific Student Grant. Ms. Kumiko Aoki won for her film titled, “ROUGE OF THE LIVINGDEAD.”

Ms. Kumiko Aoki’s entry was among a field of 46 students from around the Asia-Pacific region including entrants from Australia, China, Korea and Malaysia. Ms. Kumiko Aoki won a mobile studio consisting of Avid Media Composer® on a HP Compaq Mobile Workstation and a Sony Digital Video Camera.

Ms. Kumiko Aoki says she wanted to express the wish of every girl in love to become more beautiful through her work “ROUGE OF THE LIVINGDEAD”. She is very happy to have won the award and is planning to create a “mockumentary” as her graduation work with her prize. She is planning to take advantage of Media Composer to be able to mix resolutions and create her work.

The judging panel was impressed by Ms. Kumiko Aoki’s entry stating: This spoof of a beauty advertisement is macabre yet quirky, bizarre yet hilarious. It takes the before and after shots of normal makeup commercials to new heights, juxtaposing a dead person with a beautiful living one. Through competent use of editing, sound and video effects, this very creative premise was brought to life, just like the main character in this 1-minutes piece! I thought it was a thoroughly entertaining story.”

The Avid Asia-Pacific Student Grant contest, which is run in conjunction with Sony and HP, is designed to encourage students’ creativity, enthusiasm and commitment to media studies. The deadline for Round Five is the 31st May 2008.

Students are asked to upload a 60 second video clip to www.avid-asia.com/competitions. The clip can be new or old content created by the student either in the course of their studies or during their own time.  The winning entries will be judged on originality and creativity.
